Local Story

Kyoto, Mid-City Lunch

Even though we live close to 2 hours away from Kyoto, once a year we book a special restaurant in Kyoto for our Wedding Anniversary. It is the one day we can splash out a little and enjoy a divine Japanese / French Lunch over a bottle of wine and a couple glasses of Sparkling to start off. Not to give it all away, but we have been going to the same restaurant in Kyoto for the last 6 years and are always satisfied and re-satisfied with the service, the high standard of the meal and the quiet environment. There are only 6 tables in this restaurant with high wooden pillars making the 2 storied restaurant feel nice and roomy. The outside of the restaurant is a traditional but modern styled Japanese Inn converted into a deluxe restaurant. What is more the restaurant is located in a superb location giving us the opportunity to visit the Kyoto Museum before Lunch and one or several temples after lunch. To sum it up, even if you are a traveller to Japan, there is no reason why you can't enjoy what the locals do, and even more so if it is a special occasion. During you stay in Japan, you should at least enjoy one or two highly rated restaurants and experience true Japanese hospitality.

Scott Kent Osaka

A New Zealand native, I've now spent over half my life in Japan. Often being told I'm more Japanese than the Japanese ! I love to mingle with local's and I have strong interests in the Castles, Temples, Onsen hot baths and Culture of Japan in general.
