Nagano, Central Alps
I have only been able to get here once before, but I instantly fell in love with the area and ended up staying 4 nights. The location; Ina City, Nagano prefecture. Having a friend getting married, I was lucky enough to be invited to the wedding and what a wedding it was. But after the wedding I decided to stay on a few extra days and check out the local attractions. Besides the locally crafted beer, my first impression was WOW!, how much more nature could you get!. All around you are mountains, rivers and varieties of alpine flowers that I have never seen before. I just wanted to relax and melt into a slow going few days. Two days of bliss, one was just walking the river beds with huge rocks that contain shiny and glittery minerals. The air was fresh, the river was made up of snowmelt water and there was no need to spend a cent (except the bus ride). The following day was maybe the most impressionable. I ventured to KomakeDake which is a 2612 meter peak in the Central Alps. I took a bus, then a ropeway (which ended up being the fastest moving and the highest altitude Cable car in Japan) to KomakeDake lookout. The hiking and sightseeing season had just started, so there was still a great amount of snow left and extremely bright on my eyes. After a quick Japanese Curry lunch, I attempted a little bit of hiking and due to the great weather could see over the Northern Japanese Alps. An incredible experience. On this day I also was fortunate to see NihonZika (Japanese Deer) that is an endangered species. No need to say, but I simply fell in love with this area and will be back.
