The Gion Festival is one of the three most important Festivals in Japan, and happens in July. The whole of July is the Gion Festival for Kyoto, but 15 / 16 / 17 July are the bigs days. So that means today!
On the 17th July, the large antique floats parade the streets of Kyoto, and it is one of the biggest crowd pullers for the entire year.
This years Gion Festival is special because due to Covid-19 the Gion Festival was cancelled in 2020 & 2020.
Today saw many people come to Kyoto and watch the floats idyllically take the streets of Kyoto central. It is just another sign that Kyoto and Japan is getting back to normal, and not giving in to the ongoing Covid pandemic.
